GP's role in palliative care: Management and support options
General practitioners play an essential role in the management and coordination of care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, however many GPs choose not to deliver palliative care. Concerns over inadequate clinician support, emotional duress, perceived skill in symptom minimisation and the prospect of managing challenging symptoms are a few of the contributing factors for this reluctance.

RACGP WA, together with Cancer Council Australia (Palliative & Supportive Care Education (PaSCE)) are pleased to present this workshop, which will provide GPs with support and strategies to deal with the multifaceted clinical and psycho-social elements influencing the palliative care patient and family members.

Presented by Dr Barry Fatovich (GP; Silver Chain Palliative Care Services) and Dr Alison Parr (Director Medical Services and Director Physician Education, St John of God Hospital; Associate Professor, University of Notre Dame), this webinar will improve your ability to provide comprehensive psychological, spiritual and practical support to patients and family members.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Describe the principles of palliative care and recognise the role of the general practitioner in end of life care
2. Outline symptom minimisation and management options available to general practitioners
3. Identify support and resource services available to general practitioners
